Seller handbook

How selling on Waqaram works, end to end

This is the complete operating guide for sellers: what to sell, how to price in rupees, how payouts and escrow work, what the review process checks, and how to get your first hundred sales. For the market research behind it, read the Pakistan digital selling playbook.

Step 1: choose a product with real demand

The fastest failure mode for a new seller is building something impressive that nobody searches for. Before you make anything, check whether Pakistani buyers already pay for it, and at what price.

The categories currently converting best on Waqaram are Urdu-language skill courses, exam preparation notes, Canva and Notion templates, freelancing starter kits, WordPress themes and Ramadan or Islamic planners. Each solves a problem the buyer can name in one sentence.

  • It must be deliverable as a file or hosted lesson. Anything needing physical fulfilment does not belong here.
  • It should sit in a Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 band, where Pakistani buyers make a decision without needing approval from anyone else.
  • It should solve a problem with a deadline: an exam next month, a client proposal due Friday, Ramadan starting in three weeks.
  • It should be defensible. If a buyer can find the same thing free in ten seconds, the listing will not convert.

Step 2: price for the Pakistani market

Do not convert a dollar price. A USD 19 template becomes an awkward number in rupees and signals that the product was not made for this market. Price directly in the bands buyers already recognise.

Rs 499 works for single templates and short notes. Rs 999 is the sweet spot for a substantial template pack or ebook. Rs 1,999 suits a structured mini-course or a large asset bundle. Rs 4,999 and above needs a clear outcome attached, such as a complete certification course or a done-for-you business kit.

Bundle instead of discounting

Repeated discounting trains buyers to wait for a sale. Bundling three related products at a combined price raises the average order value without devaluing anything.

Price the outcome, not the file size

A twelve-page contract template that saves a freelancer a legal consultation is worth more than a two-hundred-page ebook nobody finishes. Write the listing around what the buyer gets to stop worrying about.

Step 3: apply and get approved

Seller applications are reviewed by a person, typically within 24 hours. You will provide your business or personal details, your payout destination, and a description of what you intend to sell.

Approval is refused most often for one of three reasons: the products are resold PLR content with no original work, the payout details do not match the account holder, or the described catalogue is outside what a digital marketplace can legally deliver. Get those right and approval is routine.

Step 4: build a listing that converts

Traffic is only half the job. A listing earns the sale in the first screen, before the buyer scrolls.

  • Title: describe the outcome and the format, for example Complete CSS Essay Notes 2026, 180 pages, PDF.
  • Cover image: readable at thumbnail size on a phone. Text smaller than the product name will disappear in the grid.
  • Description: what is included, who it is for, what it is not, and the exact file formats and sizes.
  • Preview: upload a genuine sample. Listings with a real preview convert measurably better than ones asking for blind trust.
  • Gallery: three to five screenshots showing actual content rather than decorative stock photography.

Step 5: understand escrow and payouts

When a buyer pays, the money enters escrow rather than going straight to you. Once delivery is confirmed and the dispute window passes, the balance moves to your available payout total.

Payouts are requested from your seller dashboard and settle to JazzCash, Easypaisa, Raast or a bank account. The commission is deducted at that point, so the figure you see as available is the figure that arrives. The current rate is published on the pricing page.

Escrow exists to protect both sides. It is why buyers are willing to pay in advance for a file they have not opened, which is precisely what makes advance payment for digital goods viable in this market.

Step 6: get your first hundred sales

New stores do not get free traffic anywhere, and Waqaram is no exception. The sellers who grow fastest treat the marketplace as their checkout and fulfilment layer, and drive their own demand into it.

  • Post the free version of your knowledge publicly, then link the paid, organised version. Value first, offer second.
  • Answer questions in the communities where your buyers already are: Facebook groups, university WhatsApp groups, freelancer Discords.
  • Ask early buyers for a review. Social proof compounds, and reviewed listings rank higher in category browsing.
  • Keep files updated. Buyers get updates free, which turns a one-time purchase into a reason to recommend you.
  • Cross-link your own catalogue so a buyer who wants one thing sees the adjacent thing.

Common mistakes that cost sellers money

Almost every stalled store shares a handful of fixable problems: a cover image that is illegible on mobile, a description written for the seller rather than the buyer, no preview file, pricing copied from a US platform, and no answers to buyer questions. Fixing those five typically matters more than launching another product.

If you are choosing between platforms first, the comparison of Waqaram, Daraz and Gumroad lays out the trade-offs, and the payment rails guide covers which payout method to pick.

Tax, records and staying compliant

Income from digital sales is taxable in Pakistan in the same way as any other income, and the practical burden is smaller than most first-time sellers fear. You do not need a registered company to start: selling under your own name with a payout account that matches your CNIC is enough for the vast majority of individual creators.

What matters is record keeping. Every payout Waqaram sends is documented in your dashboard with the date, gross amount, commission deducted and net amount received, and monthly statements are exportable as PDF for your filing. Keep those alongside your bank or wallet statements and your annual return becomes a short exercise rather than a reconstruction.

Once earnings become regular, a short conversation with an accountant is worth the fee. They will tell you whether registering for a national tax number changes your position, whether any of your buyers are outside Pakistan in a way that affects treatment, and how to structure withdrawals sensibly. Refund and chargeback handling, which affects your net figures, is documented in the refund policy.

One practical habit prevents most of the pain: keep selling money in an account that is not your everyday spending account. It costs nothing, it makes your ledger match your statements line for line, and it turns an annual filing into an hour of tidy arithmetic rather than a week of forensic guesswork through personal transactions. Sellers who do this from their first payout almost never have a compliance problem later, and those who do not usually discover the gap at the least convenient possible moment.
